A FED-UP commuter says her patience has reached the end of the line after constant delays and cancellations on a Wharfedale

service.

Michelle Howard, who travels from Bradford Foster Square to her job at Barclays Bank, in Ilkley, says using the 8.27 train has become a chaotic hit and miss affair.

Mrs Howard is so enraged that she has taken to writing a diary, cataloguing the disruptions to the service which she says, are making her late to work almost every day.

Mrs Howard said she is tired of the delays, confusion and lack of information for travellers.

"My first thought in the morning is to look at the monitors to see whether it's running or not," she said.

"I do not take any notice of them so I have got to go and ask in the ticket office and half of the time they do not know.

"There was one incident when I asked if the Ilkley train was running and the man said 'yes it is waiting on platform one.' I said, 'no it isn't,'.

"He phoned up and found it had been cancelled."

Mrs Howard, who has a son, Aaron, has filled out two complaints forms and forwarded them to Northern Spirit.

She said the compensation she received does not even cover the costly mobile phone calls to her employer to explain that she will be late - again.

She also telephones a colleague who catches the train in Baildon to let her know whether the service is running. She said: "I have received a £5 compensation voucher, which I do not want.

"I just want to get to work on time. It is not good enough. The service is totally unacceptable. It is disgusting."

Mrs Howard, who pays £13 for her weekly Metro Pass, said the constant cancellations and late-running of the trains could have an impact on her working life.

She said: "I have never been late for work until I started to work in Ilkley and started relying on the trains.

"I always liked to be there 15 minutes before starting time and now I am late every day.

"So far they have been understanding but half of our cashier workforce catches this train. If the service does not improve I will seriously have to look at applying for a transfer to another branch."

After bus services were recently slashed, there is now only a very limited bus service between Bradford and Ilkley.
