A GROUP of Guiseley residents have received a millennium flame to light their community beacon on New Year's Eve from Leeds Lord Mayor Bernard Atha and Lady Mayoress and Coronation Street's Liz Dawn.
The group, made up of representatives from Guiseley's churches and community organisation Guiseley and Menston Green Belt Action Group (GAMGBAG), was one of seven from across Leeds to receive a flame.
They plan to hold New Year's Eve celebrations in the town, similar to last year's event, which attracted more than 2,500 people. This year's event, which includes singing and other festivities, also includes fireworks.
In handing over the flame, Coun Atha said: "The beacon events gives communities the opportunity to celebrate the New Year in style and prove a focal point for many communities. eceiving the flame was Bruno Peek from Beacon Millennium, and he was joined by Lady Mayoress Liz Dawn, Lord Mayor Bernard Atha, Paul Jackson of GAMGBAG, event co-ordinator Graham Hoult, Clare Hird of GAMGBAG and Pat Durham from Guiseley Baptist Church.
