THE village playground in Pool-in-Wharfedale may face an uncertain future because of new European Regulations.
Pool Parish Council has admitted that it has no idea how many pieces of play equipment will need to be removed because they do not meet the latest standards.
The next inspection of the playground is expected to be in Spring.
Pool Parish Council chairman Chris Leggatt said: "This is obviously an issue affecting all playgrounds city-wide. "
Co-incidentally, money earmarked for the village by housing developers Redrow Homes could be used for an early years playground in the grounds of Pool School.
School governors have supported the idea in principal - but the final say on how the money will be spent in Pool lies with villagers.
The parish council has also agreed to the principle of using part of the existing playground as a possible skateboard park for youngsters.
A steering group looking at ways to spend Redrow's money, called the Pool Community Development Group, is currently examining possible schemes in the village.
