A Silsden Cub Scout pack is flying the flag after a hat-trick of successes in an annual competition. Members of the 9th Keighley (2nd Silsden) pack took first place - for the third year in succession - in the Cub Scout challenge flag contest. Twelve teams representing packs throughout the Keighley district took part in the competition at St Stephen's Church hall, Steeton.

The Cubs were tested on a wide variety of subjects related to their section's progressive training scheme. Topics ranged from compass points and first aid to saints and the royal family.

The competition was close run, with only a few points separating the top teams. Runner-up was 19th Keighley (Ingrow), and third was 21st Keighley (Steeton).

Mark Pullen, Assistant District Commissioner for Cub Scouts, says: "The standards were high and it was extremely closely contested. All the young people seemed to enjoy themselves.

"I would like to say a big thank-you to all the adults who assisted - their help was appreciated."

Ray Smithson, pack leader at 9th Keighley, told us: "We did some refreshers before we took part in the competition and I think that might have helped us. It's a terrific achievement to win in it three years on the trot and we are very proud of everyone here."
