An appeal has been set up to buy half a dozen life saving ECG machines to be used at Airedale hospital.

The appeal for the electrocardiograph machines, used to monitor the beating of the heart, has been launched following a stay at Airedale by Long Lee man Jeff Binnington.

Mr Binnington, a former Keighley traffic warden, says: "During my stay, which involved some investigations, I was appalled by the fact that they only have six of these machines.

"I thought it was terrible that a large hospital like Airedale has only six of these ECGs."

He says the six vital machines are shared throughout all the hospital's departments, covering the entire population of Keighley and the surrounding area.

Mr Binnington says around £8,000 will be needed to buy six more machines to take the total up to 12 and donations can be made at any Natwest bank.

A special account has been set up under the name of SME, or Specific Medical Equipment, account 44. Donors will also need to quote the numbers 45845751 and branch number 53-61-30 in order to make a payment.
