The Keighley and Haworth Tourism Management Group is set to re-launch itself with a new name and a new, unified outlook for the future.

At a meeting of the K & HTMG on Tuesday members outlined their strategy for the future in readiness for a meeting with Bradford council's tourism supremo Owen Williams yesterday .

Jackie Cope, chairman of the K & HTMG, treasurer Graham Mitchell, and Tricia Tillotson, from Haworth Tourist Information Centre, were yesterday due to lay out their ambitious plans for the future with Mr Williams, Bradford council's director of marketing and communications.

The first step the group proposes to take is a change of name to signal a distinct break with the past and to look to the future.

At Tuesday's meeting Mr Mitchell, who is also the director of Keighley Bus Museum Trust, said: "I propose we change our name from the Keighley and Haworth Tourism Management Group to the Bront Country Partnership."

Representatives from a number of the area's tourist attractions agreed the Bront name was a strong identifiable brand and could be used to unify the area's tourism assets.

They agreed that if the present BCP had no objections the new name would be adopted and the two groups would join forces to co-ordinate their work.

The group also plans to seek funding from the council to employ a dedicated officer to work for the newly named partnership to co-ordinate the promotion of the area.

The Haworth group has been inspired by the successes of the marketing officer employed by the existing BCP (representing Bront Parson-age museum, Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and East Riddlesden Hall).

Graduated membership fees, based upon size and visitor figures, are also part of the group's blueprint for the future.

William Miles, from the Yorkshire Tourist Board, said this type of outlook was precisely what the group needed.

He said: "You have got to grasp the nettle with both hands and go for it. You've got to be the master of your own destiny, and if the council aren't up to speed with you at the moment then still just go for it. We will support them in doing whatever we can."
