COUGARS' goal of getting more competitive rugby league played in schools was further advanced with the second of two tournaments staged at South Craven school.
After the success of the Under-14's, the Under-16's stepped in for what turned out to be a great tournament in bad conditions.
Both pitches used were really heavy underfoot but despite this the rugby played was of a high standard.
Five schools -- South Craven, Oakbank, Beckfoot, West Craven, Barnoldswick, and Colne Park High -- entered with the hosts proving the strongest and taking full points.
The last game of the day was a hard-fought decider for second spot, with Park High just pipping Beckfoot 14-10, the winning try coming in the last seconds.
West Craven and Oakbank had virtually U15 teams and competed well but that extra year just proved too much.
Results: West Craven 0 South Craven 12, Oakbank 4 Beckfoot 6, Park High 6 West Craven 0, South Craven 24 Beckfoot 0, West Craven 4 Oakbank 4, South Craven 6 Park High 0, Beckfoot 10 West Craven 4, Park High 10 Oakbank 0, Beckfoot 10 Park High 14, South Craven 16 Oakbank 4.
