City of Bradford Swimming Club hosted their 18th annual Christmas Swim Meet at Harrogate with more than 40 clubs from around the country taking part and many records broken.

Chester-le-Street's Stephanie Proud set four meet records.

Two came in the 12-year-olds' 100m backstroke - one in the heats and one in the final - with Bradford's Katie Ford runner-up.

Stephanie's other records came in the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

The contest for top male City of Bradford swimmer of the meet produced a close tussle between Richard Shepherd and Steven Broadley, with Richard taking the title after winning four golds, two silvers and two bronzes to Steven's two gold, four silver and one bronze.

In the men's 200m freestyle Richard started fast on the first 100m and hung on to win as Steven came back.

Richard took the men's 200m backstroke and 100m fly with Steven second, while Steven won the 200m fly with Richard in second place.

Richard won the men's 200m medley and with silvers in the men's 200m breaststroke and bronzes in the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, he took the top award.

Bradford's other golds came in the men's 50m and 100m freestyle with sprint free specialist Adrian Lonsdale holding off a strong challenge to win.

In the 100m freestyle the home club had five swimmers in the final, with Richard Mason taking first place from team mates Steven Broadley and Richard Shepherd.
