Homesick Benito Carbone wanted to return to Italy even before being told he could leave Bradford City.

Carbone admitted his family could not settle in England and he was looking for a move back home.

City boss Jim Jefferies, speaking at a fans forum at Valley Parade, said: "Beni had been looking a bit down for a couple of weeks and he told me his family just wanted to return to Italy.

"But that had no influence on my decision that he would be available for transfer."

Udinese were the first to enquire about the £3 million striker although a source close to the Serie A club said today it was only a "tentative interest, nothing more".

The spokesman added: "Udinese rang the Bradford chairman but have not followed it up yet. I'm not sure if we will be."

Jefferies said: "Beni's agent has confirmed his preference to play in Italy again and will make moves to create some interest with clubs there."

Dean Windass, currently in pay talks with City, has been linked to Middlesbrough, Stan Collymore to Paris St Germain and Matt Clarke once again to Newcastle.

Jefferies added: "There have been a lot of agents saying this and that but nothing concrete in terms of offers."
