From the Telegraph & Argus of January 11, 1976... Woodside people may get their own gardening club in the spring. The community association there plans to lend equipment such as lawn-mowers and shears to residents cheaply. People at the association's meeting agreed the club would encourage better-kept gardens, said chairman Mr Luke Kearns.

A suspected victim of smallpox was taken from Brighouse last night to Cottingham Isolation Hospital, near Hull. He is a 25- year-old man believed to have been in contact with a person from Brighton. A statement issued by the Medical Officer of Health for Brighouse, Dr F Appleton, said that the man was removed immediately a rash appeared and had not been out of his house since the beginning of his illness. Mass vaccination is not yet recommended but all people the man has come into contact with have been vaccinated.
