sAlistair Young is drumming up the tempo of his musical talent. The 13-year-old South Craven student, who lives in Utley, has been playing the drums for six years but had never played in public until now. But a school 'Stars in their Eyes' contest in November has led to his first pantomime appearance.

A member of the audience spotted his drum accompaniment to 'I Wish It Could be Christmas Every Day' and invited him to play for Glusburn Youth Theatre's 'Aladdin' production in February.

Despite his new found fame Alistair, who has only ever played before with the school orchestra, does not think he will pursue a drumming career.

"I've always wanted to be a chef," he says.

sThree local primary schools have been brightened up this week thanks to a donation of four reproduction paintings by Sainsbury's supermarket in Keighley.

The schools - Aire View, Nessfield and Oakworth - were presented with the framed prints by store manager Jon Quarmby on Monday morning.

Mr Quarmby says: "It's a great way to help out the schools. They are selected from the local catchment area and because we have been doing it for a number of years we try and spread it out." To accompany the paintings - chosen by Nicholas Seronta, director of the Tate museum - the schools were given an educational pack containing a video on the paintings, and picture postcards.

This is the seventh year the Pictures for Schools scheme has been running and Sainsbury's has already given a total of 8,000 schools throughout the UK packs of 34 different paintings.
