Villagers in Steeton and Eastburn may be without their traditional festive lights next Christmas.
Over three consecutive nights in December the lights in Steeton, in a tree on Barrows Lane, and in Eastburn, in a tree on Main Road, were torn down and destroyed three times.
On Wednesday parish councillors in the villages discussed the possibility of not putting the lights up again next year for fear of further damage.
Council chairman Councillor David Emmott said: "The youths were throwing sticks up and pulling the lights off. They pulled them down and stamped on them all. I think we should leave them altogether for a year or two."
Councillor Jonathon Cullingworth disagreed and said: "I think we should persevere because that's giving in to them. Hopefully, it's just a group of teenagers who did it this year and they will be too old next year.
"It's shocking and a real pity."
The council agreed to discuss the matter further in October and publicly expressed their thanks to Eastburn resident Peter Lum who erected the lights.
