A woman who was pregnant when savagely clubbed on the head by an attacker credits her little son for helping her slowly come to terms with her ordeal.

Jenny Harper was seven weeks pregnant when she was beaten with a baseball bat by a masked man, who burst into her Hardwick Street home, in Keighley, in December, 1999.

Her son, Reece, is now six months old and helping keep her mind occupied and to forget the trauma.

The attacker went on to assault two other women, who were both seriously injured, and police launched a manhunt.

The Lund Park attacker, as he became known, is still on the wanted list.

Jenny, 26, who has moved to a new home in Oakworth with her partner, Simon Oxley, a Post Office manager, says she is still haunted by the image of the man.

She needed 23 stitches in a head wound and her fingers were broken as she tried to defend herself.

"The image of him still comes to me especially at night. I sometimes see him as I close my eyes -- he comes into my mind.

"Thankfully, it's not as often as it used to be. Reece is helping a lot -- he keeps my mind off things. If I mope around and let it get on top of me, it's going to affect him," says Jenny.

She was working as a hairdresser at the time of the attack and is not looking to get back into part-time work.

Jenny was struck as she opened the door to her terrace house.

Her attacker smashed her over the head, chased her into the house and only fled when he was disturbed by her lodger.

He struck again five days later, on December 16, pouncing on a mother of four as she crossed Lund Park.

The man made his third attack on January 4, striking a 29-year-old woman in Kensington Street.

Police are still trying to trace the man, described as white or light-skinned Asian, in his mid teens to early 20s and of medium build. Police inquiries remained active and the attacks were still very much on the minds of officers, particularly those in the Lund Park area, says a police spokesman. Women are still urged to be vigilant in the area and anyone with information should contact Keighley police on 01535 617059.
