Albion and Bingley Under-16's beat Newsome Panthers 22-8 to leapfrog over them in the table. Newsome crossed for two tries int he first 20 minutes before Albion started to get into gear.

Solid defence from Nicky Lister, Scott Bellamy, Matt Steel and Eddie Wilson saw them soak up the pressure with the only chance being snuffed out by a trademark tackle from Colin Pickles.

Into the second half Albion were coming up the Crossflatts slope and had it all to do if they were to get anything from the match. Bellamy never stopped running and one of his runs set up a break by Andy Feather who chipped over the Newsome defence. Great support by Alex Pearson saw him rewarded with a well deserved touchdown to take the score to 8 - 4. Albion were visibly lifted by this score and they really began to take the game to Newsome. Pickles began to join in the attack more and more and was the link needed to release Alistair Beaumont on a 40 yard dash to the line. He beat the cover to go in under the posts and leave an easy goal for Lister to add.

Newsome were not going to lie down and came at Albion time and again but manful defending led by Wilson, Robinson, Metcalfe and Bellamy saw them shut out the Newsome side and from one attack Lister cleverly read the play and intercepted a pass to sprint a full 70 yards to score with Beaumont adding the goal. Newsome attacked again but after being forced into touch Steel broke from the resulting scrum and drew the defence on to him to release Jason Battle who showed great pace to go 60 yards and score. Beaumont added the goal to leave the score at 22 - 8.

All the team pulled together and showed great resolve to turn the game around and earn the win. They need to take this resolve to Sheffield next week as they travel away to play in the quarter final of the league cup.
