Wetherby Bulldogs 12

Silsden Park Rangers 34

Silsden Park Rangers overcame another difficult task in their quest for the division four title, when they defeated Wetherby Bulldogs by 34-12.

Despite playing against the wind and slope in the first half Silsden were first to register points. Danny Horne and Ian Robinson combined to send in Phil Lane for an unconverted try.

The Cobbydalers soaked up an enormous amount of pressure before extending their lead after winning a scrum in the Wetherby twenty metre area. Loose forward Matt Horne picked up from the base of the scrum and offloaded to John Williams, who drew the winger before passing to Matt Bowness who scored the easiest of tries by the side of the posts. Williams converted and Rangers were on their way at 10-0.

Disaster struck when Silsden lost outstanding prop Dave Webster with what looked like a serious leg injury. The game was stopped for some time and when it was eventually restarted it seemed as though Rangers had lost their momentum and conceded a converted try.

Player-coach Tony Williams led by example and took his team forward. Matt Horne restored normality when he finished off a fine move started by livewire hooker Dean Farrell who was tremendous all afternoon.

Just before half time Danny Horne sent in-form fullback Ian Robinson over for another try . With two conversions from John Williams Silsden were coasting at 22-6 at half time.

Another reshuffle was forced when Rob Bailey had to retire with a leg injury but it didn't put the visitors off their stride as they made certain of victory. Wayne McCombe was the man of the match and he set up the best try of the game when he went on a solo run, before taking on the fullback and finding Williams with a fine one arm pass to send the scrumhalf scampering over.

Neil Albone was next to score after good play from Ian Robinson and Mark Kent . The final word went to young winger Matt Bowness who scored after a carbon copy move of his first try, this time swatting off the home side's six foot second rower before finising with a dive into the right hand corner.

Park Rangers will be looking to make it eleven from eleven next saturday when they travel to Liversedge. Kick off 2-00pm.
