Sheffield Eagles 16, Cougars 52 - IF BBC ever get a sniff of the match video from Sheffield it could fill the 'What Happened Next' slot on Question of Sport.

Pick of the bunch was Andy Brent's second try for the Eagles deep in the second half. It was as bizarre a score as you will see on a rugby field.

Eagles were awarded a penalty directly in front of the Cougar posts and decided to run the ball rather than collect the two points. They immediately knocked on - handing possession back to the powerful Keighley outfit.

Cougars picked up from the play the ball, collided with the referee, lost the ball and gifted Brent his try with Richard Goddard adding the conversion.

Second up for the TV show would be Sheffield's first try immediately after the re-start.

Cougars kicked off and former team mate Chris Robinson settled under the ball, collected and promptly spilled the catch.

Stop the tape - What happened next?

No, referee Nick Oddy did not blow up for a knock-on and give possession to Keighley. As the Cougars looked on in disbelief a powerful run put Ian Brown in at the corner, at the other end of the field.

A second try for Brown gave Sheffield 16 second half points and in fairness they were for more determined than in the first period, but the result was never in doubt.

Cougars had already run up a 36-0 first half lead with more of the sparkling rugby which has put them top of the Northern Ford Premiership. After an early period of pressure Eagles wilted under the Cougar onslaught and once again it was Martin Wood calling all the shots.

After four minutes he supplied the slick pass which sent full back James Rushforth away on a blistering break. Great support play sent Paul Harrison over the line.

Wood was a vital member of the Eagles team which sensationally beat Wigan in the 1998 Challenge Cup final. He is still a hero in 'Steel Town', but he was in no mood to take pity on the club he joined during a brief period away from Cougar Park.

Slick handling down the right put Craig Horne in at the corner after 15 minutes with Wood's touchline conversion from the right giving the Cougars a 12-0 lead.

Within minutes Ramshaw's pass put Danny Seal through and he raced round under the posts to give Wood an easy kick.

Next came a spectacular Jason Lee break down the left. He was caught with the line only feet away and was blatantly held down by Andy Poynter who was dispatched to the sin bin for laying-on. Cougars followed up the move putting Antonik over and another successful kick put Keighley 24-0 ahead.

Wood was there with a slick side-stop and superb handling from Ramshaw, Horne, Rushforth and back to Wood eventually put Lee over in the left corner, with Wood showing his kicking confidence as he calmly slotted another difficult conversion.

Just before half time the impressive Darren Carter slipped over and the inevitable conversion gave Cougars a healthy 36-0 lead.

Eagles came out with renewed determination after the break and revelled in their opening try, but could not add the extras.

Danny Seal pounced for his second when he followed up a highball which the Eagles defence fumbled behind their own line.

After the home side had accepted the gift of a try following the crazy collision with t he referee. Jason Lee pounced at the other end slamming the ball down overhead as a clutch of defenders attempted to hold him on his back.

Ian Brown slipped over for his second for the Eagles with Goddard tagging on the conversion to bring up their 16 points.

But with time ticking away winger Craig Horne added the final flourish for the Cougars.

He dummied for the left wing, twisted back inside, shimmied past most of the Eagles defence, turned again and finally crossed for a spectacular 40-metre try -- scored from just 10 yards out.

His enthusiasm and determination was typical of the style Steve Deakin has brought to the Cougar squad.

"It was a superb performance, the first 40 minutes was the best period of football I have seen since I came to Cougars. It was particularly good considering we had played a tough game against Hull KR on the previous Wednesday evening.

"That game took its toll a bit in the second half, but any team would be happy to finish with that scoreline against Sheffield," Steve Deakin said.
