A victimisation claim brought by a social worker from Shipley against Bradford Council will be held behind closed doors.

At a two-hour plea and directions hearing in Leeds yesterday, an employment tribunal panel ruled that a case brought by Steve Hayes, pictured, should continue to be heard in private.

As reported in the Telegraph & Argus yesterday, the 43-year-old former child-protection worker alleges he lost his job after threatening to blow the whistle on alleged malpractice at the council. He was placed with Bradford Social Services by the Reed Social Care employment agency, which is also defending the case.

The tribunal decided on privacy because some of the evidence needed would be taken from confidential documents. A further directions hearing is expected in March with the full tribunal being heard in the summer.

Bradford Council refused to comment on the case.
