Middlesbrough have ruled out a further move for Bradford City talisman Dean Windass.

Boro have decided against increasing their offer for the 31-year-old after City turned down a £1 million bid at the end of last week.

Bantams boss Jim Jefferies has made it clear that he sees Windass as a key part of his plans and will not let him leave Valley Parade.

Boro have certainly taken the hint as manager Bryan Robson announced they had dropped out the running.

Robson said: "We made an inquiry about the player on Friday.

"But we did not make any progress and as far as I am concerned we won't be going back to them."

Windass, who has 18 months of his contract to run, has been City's best performer since Jefferies took over from Chris Hutchings in November.

Jefferies said: "You know what you're going to get with Dean. If anything, I wish we had more Dean Windasses in the team."
