SKIPTON Girls' High School will be transformed into scenes from Austria as the Von Trapp family takes to the stage.

The production of Rodger and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music will boast a cast of about 50 teachers and students supported by a full orchestra.

The girls' school has produced and directed the musical but it has been put on in association with Ermysted's Grammar School.

The lead roles will be performed by Lauren Cowgill as Maria, Duncan MacDonald as Captain von Trapp and Natasha Pickles as Elsa Schraeder. Even some of the teachers have taken time out from their schedules to get involved. Language teacher John Golding will play Uncle Max and DT teacher Vicky Hopwell will play Mother Superior.

The musical will be performed in the school hall on February 7, 8 and 9 at 7.30pm. Tickets will be available from Monday from the school office at £5 for adults and £3.50 cons.

The two schools will be joining forces again in March when they put on a production of Terry Pratchet's Men at Arms.
