PEOPLE from Aireborough could help make a unique tapestry.

Images of Rawdon, Yeadon and Guiseley are to be embroidered into the Leeds Tapestry - which was started in 1993.

And people from Aireborough could become involved in the project which is due to finish at the end of this year.

A small A4 piece of an 'environment' panel will cover Aireborough due to the £500 sponsorship of Aireborough councillor Graham Latty. It will contain the town crests and other images decided by town groups and the tapestry makers. Kate Russell, the artist behind the tapestry, said they would welcome people

interested in helping out - but that a shortage of time meant they would have to have some skill.

"Thousands of people have been involved in the tapestry and one of our main things has been to train people, but because we are now working to a deadline we have to work to the right standard and don't have time to put things right."

The tapestry, which features 24 panels, contains images from across the city. The environment panel, which will include the Aireborough section, will be made up of recycled materials.

Finished parts are already on show at Leeds Railway Station where it will eventually go on permanent display. There are also plans for the finished tapestry to go on tour with an

exhibition showing how it was put together.
