A 19-year-old man was killed in Guiseley at the weekend when he was struck by a car while walking home with friends after a night out.

Christopher Brown, son of Steve Brown and Patricia Burton, head of Moorfield Girls School, Ilkley, was pinned against parked cars when he was hit by a red and grey Rover 216 in Netherfield Road, Guiseley, around midnight on Friday.

Mr Brown, of Shannon Close, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but died of multiple injuries.

His family said this week that they were too upset to speak about the accident.

Mr Brown worked as a laboratory assistant in Yeadon and was a former pupil of Ilkley Grammar School.

Peter Wood, head teacher of the school, said: "He was a smashing lad with a lovely sense of humour. He was kind and sensitive and thoughtful and all his teachers are very shocked by what has happened."

An inquest into Mr Brown's death was opened and adjourned at Leeds Coroner's Court on Tuesday (January 16).

The inquest heard a post mortem had been carried out.

Leeds Coroner David Hinchliff granted a cremation order.

Mr Brown's funeral will take place on Friday at 1.45pm at St John's Church in Ben Rhydding.

The family has requested no flowers but donations can be made to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association via H Eaton and Sons Funeral Directors, Ashlands Road,

Ilkley.
