WHARFEDALE'S latest billiards and snooker match saw them travel to Huddersfield to take on the town's number one squad.

The snooker team carved out an excellent 3-3 draw against a powerful home side although Richard Brooke's disappointing season continued when once again he lost both his frames against Kuldesh Johal.

Brooke seems to be lacking confidence and his normally classy and fluent game is suffering.

The position was retrieved for Wharfedale when Andy Blamire secured a two frames to nil victory over Adrian O'Connor.

The final pairing saw Wharfedale's Tony Taylor up against the highly rated Robert Reed and the spoils were shared with Reed making a fine break of 57 in the process.

Scores: K Johal 2 (75, 68), R Brooke 0 (29, 19); A O'Connor 0 (39, 29), A Blamire 2 (60, 68); R Reed 1 (53, 78), T Taylor 1 (67, 0).

Wharfedale's billiards team suffered its first defeat of the season when it lost by five points to two to a team that is likely to be a rival for honours at the end of the season.

Jack Parker played first and looked to be in with a chance of success but a tactical blunder gave his opponent the initiative and from then on he was out-thought and outplayed and lost comfortably.

Ron Haigh was very much out of sorts and struggled to find any rhythm or fluency and lost easily to Tony Clegg who can be a handful at the best of times.

Steve Crosland played last and gained two valuable points when he defeated Brian Cousen.

Crosland had breaks of 42 and 78 and also had two lucky flukes which helped him to score heavily. Wharfedale are still top of the league but Huddersfield and Bradford are hot on their heels, both with a match in hand in which they play each other.

Scores: S Whiteley 200, J Parker 117; T Clegg 200, R Haigh 108; B Cousen 78, S Crosland 200.
