TEN YEARS after joining the Cougars Martin Wood is on the threshold of becoming the club's 'Millennium Man' with a total of 1,000 points.

His six points from three goals in Sunday's spectacular 22-22 draw with Featherstone have left him needing just 24 points to reach the magic 1,000 in his two spells at Cougar Park.

The sparkling stand-off, who has become the club's most influential player, has notched up a total of 976 points from 113 tries and 264 goals - including four drop goals - in 211 appearances.

He is joint holder of Keighley's goals-in-a-match record with 15 in the 98-4 Northern Ford Premiership win at Lancashire Lynx on May 1 last year. He also scored a try for a personal best tally of 34 points in the match.

He began his playing career as an amateur with Featherstone side Streethouse before turning professional with Halifax in March 1989. He also had a brief spell with Scarborough Pirates before joining Keighley.

His first match for Cougars was in an 18-16 home win over Scarborough on February 17, 1992.

After six years at Keighley which saw him help the club to the Division Three championship in 1992-93, at the time the club's first title in 90 years, followed by the Division Two championship in 1994-95 and the Second Division Premiership title at Old Trafford the same year.

After six season at Keighley he made the move to Super League side Sheffield Eagles and was part of the team which beat Wigan in the Challenge Cup Final.

He then returned, making his second debut at loose forward in a 48-2 Silk Cut Challenge Cup third round home defeat of Rochdale Mayfield amateurs on January 31, 1999.

Jason Lee has also made his mark on this season's NFP records after scoring tries in the last five matches with his recent record reading: 2-3-1-2-1. He has only missed scoring in one of the club's seven matches so far this season and will be a vital cog in Steve Deakin's scoring machine at Doncaster this weekend.

"We know it is going to be a tough, physical game, but we are very confident." Deakin said.

St John Ellis' side stopped Hull KR scoring last weekend and will be fired up for their clash with the Cougars, but Deakin expects to be picking from and almost full squad. He was due to have fitness tests on Graeme Hallas and Mick Slicker last night, but expected them to be available.

"Doncaster have outstanding individuals in Tawhai, Weston and Mansson and a varied kicking game, but they tend to blow hot and cold.

"We need to be ready and play like we did for 50 minutes last week for the full 80 minutes this time."

He also called for a big travelling support to Belle Vue. "The supporters were fantastic last week and really lifted the team when it was needed," he said.
