Consultants have moved into booming Little Germany to start work on a major parking and environment study of the urban village.

Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick of Leeds has been asked to look at car parking management to meet the future demand from business and dozens of new residents.

They will also report on environmental schemes to brighten up the historic streets, including public art and ornamental features.

The move comes as investment flows into the area with work under way on the £2m conversion of historic Silans works into stylish apartments.

Work is also expect to start soon on a hotel development at Millennium Gate, Leeds Road.

Historic Treadwell's Mill is also earmarked for apartments and there are other plans to use the listed buildings for restaurants and offices.

Little Germany has boomed since it was made one of Britain's first urban villages last year.

The Little Germany Urban Village Company has been set up to spearhead its regeneration and it is already attracting visitors and investors from across the country.

Bradford Council's executive committee member for the economy Councillor Simon Cooke said: "A comprehensive parking and environment study is an essential stage in the company's long-term plans to regenerate the area.

"The study has been commissioned following consultations with potential developers, existing businesses and land and property agents to find out the developments they would like to see made.

"Interest in Little Germany is growing all the time from developers and the company are now seeking to identify clear priorities which will add to its commercial appeal and also improve the area for businesses, new residents and visitors."

The company's project director Nigel Rice said: "Car parking is one of the important issues for Little Germany and we are not just looking for more spaces, but also management of them."

The study's finding will be presented to the Little Germany Urban Village Company's Board.
