A business started in a conservatory by a mother and daughter from Shelf is celebrating after becoming the 100th new enterprise to benefit from joining a start-up scheme.

Just over a year ago, Patricia Maclean and daughter Kath founded Mc3 Logistics, which specialises in freight forwarding and export management.

They took advantage of The Flying Start programme - launched at around the same time - which gives advice to companies with high growth potential.

Under the scheme, which is operated by a consortium of Business Links in West Yorkshire, a specialist business mentor provides free one-to-one help.

Mc3 has grown rapidly, recently expanding into bigger premises in New Works Road, Low Moor, and created 14 jobs, eight of which were given to previously unemployed people.

It has sent goods all over the world including engineering parts for Rolls Royce to the Far East, Silver Cross prams to America and most recently, organ pipes to Sri Lanka.

Les Vevers, the FS programme manager based at Bradford & District Link, said: "Mc3 Logistics is an excellent example of the type of new start-up business the Flying Start scheme is trying to help and encourage.

"It is led by someone with real entrepreneurial flair, it has excellent growth prospects and is creating new jobs."

Patricia Maclean, Mc3's managing director, said: "The Flying Start scheme has been very useful, especially having a dedicated mentor to provide objective advice. Moving into bigger premises was a major step for us and having a mentor to turn to has been invaluable."
