A fed-up beat bobby today warned his community to use his monthly advice sessions or lose them.

PC Abdul Khan is the community constable for the Idle, Thackley and Thorpe Edge areas of Bradford.

After attending a neighbourhood community forum meeting in November, PC Khan was asked to hold monthly advice sessions for the public to vent their fears and frustrations.

Every month since then PC Khan has sat dutifully in Idle Baptist Church during the morning session and St John's Church in Thorpe Edge in the afternoon, ready to listen to the people he serves.

But to his dismay only three people have sought him out in the past three months and now he has warned the service could be withdrawn.

He said: "It was Councillor Peter Lancaster and a few others who requested the monthly sessions as a way of meeting and reaching the people.

"I said 'no problem' and within a week the once-a-month surgery was set up, but barely anyone has turned up since then.

"It's very disheartening, especially as I've looked through the log books and we get scores of calls about nuisances like illegal motorcycle racing and noisy neighbours. But there has been virtually no one come to the sessions.

"I've put posters throughout Idle village advertising the drop-in times, but not a thing.

"I know people have a lot to say about many issues which are affecting them but it really is a case of 'Use it or lose it'."

PC Khan's next surgery will take place on Wednesday, March 7, between 11am and midday in Idle Baptist Church in Bradford Road, Idle, and then from 1.30pm to 2.30pm in St John's Church, Idlethorp Way, Thorpe Edge.
