FEARS that pupils' performances would be affected

by the reorganisation of schools have been quelled this week as Ilkley Grammar School issued its first term's report.

The report says the new school is doing better than ever since it amalgamated with the area's middle schools.

Headteacher Peter Wood said: "It feels as if we've come a long way in a short time.

"It has been really impressive to see the way new colleagues have worked together to forge a new school staff, one which is giving our children a first-class education."

The school now has over 90 teachers, who teach on two sites, plus a team of secretaries, technicians and classroom assistants.

Mr Wood said that pupils had excelled at sports, music and drama and raising money for charity throughout the first term.

His comments were echoed by Michael Noble, chairman of the school's governing body.

He said: "The new school is now well established, our pupils in their new uniform are now a familiar sight and we are all committed to maintaining the highest standards for the benefit of all our young people."
