A MOTHER and her daughter who assaulted a woman at a Christmas dinner party have both been conditionally discharged for 12 months.

Bradford Crown Court was told how Raj Blezard was struck across the face and had her hair pulled at the Crescent Hotel in Ilkley in November 1999.

Stacy Blenkhorn, 19 and Wendy Blenkhorn, 38, pleaded guilty to a charge of common assault.

They were both ordered to pay £100 costs and a total of £75 in compensation to Mrs Blezard.

Wendy Blenkhorn's husband Richard, 39, was bound over for 12 months in the sum of £100 after he had admitted pushing Mrs Blezard.

Prosecutor Simon Reevell told the court how Mrs Blezard had bought a ticket to attend a Christmas dinner dance in aid of Ilkley Juniors Football Club.

While at the hotel, she met her friends in the public area inside the hotel and invited them to the private function.

But Wendy Blenkhorn - one of the organisers of the event - stopped them saying that only those with tickets could enter.

Mr Reevell described how the situation became heated before Wendy Blenkhorn grabbed Mrs Blezard's hair and moved her 'forcibly' along the foyer towards the reception area. He said her husband then pushed Mrs Blezard who was hit in her face by Stacy Blenkhorn.

The police arrived at the scene and spoke to Stacy Blenkhorn and her parents, who all live in Woodlands, Ben Rhydding, about the disturbance.

For Wendy Blenkhorn, it was stated that she was upset that all the hard work she had put in to organise the event was going wrong after Mrs Blezard verbally abused her.

Mitigating for Stacy Blenkhorn, John Sleightholme said that she saw and heard her mother crying and ended up in a dispute with someone who was in drink and somewhat aggressive.

Judge Peter Armstrong said it had been a 'most unsavoury'

incident which should not have happened.
