Ilkley Juniors U-10-s B...1

ILKLEY came up against a well-organised Harrogate team on Saturday who proved too strong for the visitors.

Ilkley made the early running, with Michael Rathmell testing the home 'keeper.

But as Harrogate countered Ilkley failed to clear the loose ball and the home team took an early lead.

Ilkley then had to weather a sustained spell of Harrogate pressure, and they had the customary heroics of man-of-the-match 'keeper Mike Lader to thank for keeping the score down.

However, once again the Ilkley defence failed to claim the loose ball and a second goal was eventually conceded.

The second-half followed much the same pattern as the first, although the strong running of Paul Kehoe and the stern defence of Dominic Roebuck added some much needed steel.

But the two goals Ilkley conceded after half time were very similar to those in the first-half with the defence being caught flat-footed by the lively Harrogate forwards.

With time running out Ilkley at last started to put some moves together, and a strong run by Chris O'Connor ended with his shot being parried and Stephen Loy following up to score and reduce the deficit.

Altogether, a disappointing performance from Ilkley who never really got into their stride in this game.

ILKLEY'S game came well and truly off the rails in the second half of this encounter.

The Ilkley defence was caught in disarray twice before half time as the home team took a two goal advantage.

Ilkley got back into the game just before half time as a powerful run by Paul Kehoe ended with his thunderbolt shot taking the home 'keepers hands with it into the back of the net.

Ilkley got on level terms within a minute of the restart as a generous Harrogate defender sent his 'keeper the wrong way to tuck the ball into his own net.

But parity was short lived as Harrogate immediately regained the lead from the kick-off.

The home team then scored four goals in two minutes as the Ilkley defence evaporated.

Ilkley did have one moment of respite as man-of-the-match Paul Kehoe strode forward like a runaway train before his powerful shot rebounded to safety off the unfortunate Harrogate 'keeper.

But this was Ilkley's last joy as the home team countered to add an eighth on the stroke of full-time.

Gremlins put 11 in net

Guiseley Gremlins....11 Long Lee.....0

GUISELEY Gremlins had a storming start to the game, battering their visitors into submission with no fewer than eight goals in the first half and leaving the Keighley side totally shell shocked.

To their credit, Long Lee rallied to keep the score down to only three further goals after the break.

In the opening minutes Ben Webster's cross found Lewis Blakey in the box and, despite being closely marked he turned to volley the ball home.

Blakey then turned provider for Will Stubbs, whose powerful header was turned over, only for an identical move to be finished off with a volley to make it two-nil.

Chris Davey picked the ball up in the centre of midfield and crashed a 25-yard shot into the roof of the net.

Minutes later he mesmerised Long Lee's defence, dribbling through to finish with a fine shot.

As the attacking momentum built, good approach work from Andy Simmonds was rewarded when a Chris Napoli shot was well saved and the ball rebounded to Simmonds feet and he netted sharply.

Davey completed a hat trick from the penalty spot, Simmonds scored again after a great run by Blakey and Stubbs forced home after another Napoli shot was saved.

In the second-half, Long Lee staged a rally but they could not get past defenders Webster, Smith, Campbell and Hudson, giving Wray a quiet time in goal, while Napoli and Roper were freed to forage in midfield.

Tom Stephenson had a good attempt pushed wide. Stubbs completed his hat-trick and went on to make take his personal tally to four, going one-on-one with the 'keeper.

Finally Simmonds crowned a great match, completing his own hat-trick with the eleventh goal of the match.

Scorers: Stubbs (4), Davey (3), Simmonds (3), Blakey.
