Addingham soccer fan Lee Parker had his dreams come true when he got to run out on the Elland Road pitch as mascot for Leeds United in their Premiership match against Coventry City.

For Lee, 14, the chance to meet his heroes and get a behind-the-scenes look at what happens on match days, came about after his mum, Carol, wrote to Leeds manager David O'Leary.

"Lee had to have a really big operation last year and he didn't really want to have it so we asked him what would make it bearable and he said being mascot at Leeds United.

"I wrote to David O'Leary and he sent a really nice letter back saying as it was the end of the season, there wasn't much he could do, but that he would pass on my letter to the community involvement department.

"Then, a couple of weeks ago I got a letter from them asking if Lee would like to be mascot at the game against Coventry," she added.

Mrs Parker said when the letter arrived, it was difficult to tell who was more excited, Lee or his Dad, Jez, who plays for Addingham FC and is a big Leeds fan.

"Lee got to see around the ground, meet the players and get their autographs, go onto the pitch and have a kick-around with them before the game started and had his photo taken with the referee and the two captains before kick-off.

"He also got his own complete replica kit and his photo was in the matchday programme. What's more, Leeds won the game 1-0 so it was a good evening all round," added Mrs Parker.

Now, having tasted the giddy heights of Elland Road, Lee is back to his weekly duty of acting as mascot for his Dad's Addingham side, where he has been running out for the side for the past eight years.
