Young people in Bradford often complain they are frustrated at the lack of facilities to keep them amused after school, at weekends and in the holidays.

But what is particularly galling for two sets of youngsters in the district is that their much-needed entertainment is probably being snatched from them by their peers.

The 11th Shipley and Baildon Moravian Cubs have been battling the vandals for months, after their home - a former school premises - was targeted by thugs.

Thankfully, Bradford Council has stepped in to offer the cub group the use of a temporary building at the school - which had been earmarked for demolition.

Up until that point, they had been forced to meet at a bus stop.

The Holme Wood Raiders rugby league team faces a similar battle for survival after its pitch became a race-track and dumping ground for joyriders.

The pitch has been left scarred by tyre and burn marks - as well as having the goal posts knocked down by the drivers of stolen cars.

This time the Council can't help and now the team is desperate for a business to help bail it out with cash for a security fence to keep the trouble-makers at bay.

It is ironic that these joyriders and vandals are probably the very people who, when questioned about why they go out of their way to cause such wanton destruction, will claim it is because there is nothing else to do.

It is sadly ironic that their own selfish behaviour leaves other youngsters who loved their particular pastimes now facing similar complaints that they too have nothing to keep them amused.
