The Oscars of Yorkshire's tourism industry have been given a cinematic launch in Bradford.

The Yorkshire Tourist Board (YTB) chose the city's National Museum of Photography, Film and Television as its base for the opening of the White Rose Awards 2001.

The museum picked up a Silver Award in the Visitor Attraction of the Year category of the 2000 competition.

The awards are designed to recognise excellent working practice in what is the region's fastest growing industry.

Chief executive of YTB, David Andrews, said: "The awards showcase the best of what Yorkshire has to offer visitors and the focus is on the quality of the visitor experience.

"Whatever the size of tourism operation, all entries are welcome as we search for the best of the best."
