A movie set in Keighley is to receive its European premiere in the town.

The special screening -- which is expected to attract big-name cast members -- will be staged at The Picture House on March 15.

Blow Dry -- from the pen of Full Monty writer and local boy Simon Beaufoy -- revolves around the glamorous national hairdressing championships, which Keighley is chosen to host.

Stars of the movie -- which is on general release from March 30 -- include Alan Rickman and Natasha Richardson, with Warren Clarke as the Lord Mayor of Keighley.

Yesterday afternoon Charles Morris, of Northern Morris Associated Cinemas, which runs The Picture House, said he was delighted at news of the premiere.

He said: "It is absolutely tremendous. We put forward a package to the distributors, who clearly liked what we were offering.

"I am not sure if the film is being premiered in America so this could even be a world premiere. It's great news for the town."

His delight is echoed by Keighley councillor Barry Thorne, who hopes council marketing chiefs will help derive maximum benefit for the district from the film's economy-boosting potential.

"To have the premiere in Keighley is absolutely marvellous," he said.

The Keighley News, which supported efforts to bring the premiere to the town, will be running hairdressing-related promotions and competitions to celebrate the event.

Malcolm Hoddy, editor of the Keighley News says: "We went to a trade showing of the film. After receiving a report it was decided to throw our full weight behind it.

"It is yet another great piece of news for Keighley. Final plans are being put in place next week."

Mike Millbank, chairman of Keighley Town Centre Management, says : " As soon as I first heard about this film I thought it could do for Keighley what the Full Monty has done for South Yorkshire. It is a splendid opportunity."
