'THE Pirates of Penzance' was presented by the choir of Knowle Park Congregational Church in March, 1946.
The drabness of World War Two was still a recent memory, and the Keighley News of the time, while customarily praising all the cast, thought its 'colourful costumes, and lighting, were effective features'.
The following year the Knowle Park choir gave 'The Mikado', subsequently working through most of the Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire.
Here, standing from left to right, are Charles Ingham as the Pirate King, John Pickles as Major-General Stanley, Arnold Dransfield as Frederick, Hubert Gardner as the Chief of Police, and Eric Hollings as Samuel.
Kneeling are Brenda Casson, Joyce Greenwood, Edna Dransfield and Margaret Whitley as the Major-General's daughters, with Mrs George Gardner, second from the right, as Ruth, the piratical maid-of-all-work.
John Pickles was a well-known member of the Keighley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society.
