A massive fundraising drive over the airwaves has provided local Muslims with a sound base for their new mosque.

The Radio Ramadan Mosque Charity Appeal has raised the grand sum of £78,000, more than £30,000 up on what the appeal committee raised last year.

The cash will go towards the construction costs of the first phase of the new £1.5 million Emily Street mosque, due for completion in around four months time.

Senior vice president of Keighley Muslim Association, Akhtar Hussain, says: "We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to this, and especially the charity appeal committee which worked so hard to raise the money in the space of just 15 days.

"Our thanks also go to the people of Keighley and the relatives of people in Keighley who live all over the UK."

The money was raised through donations to Radio Ramadan and an appeal at Eid.
