A car showroom is about to reopen with a new owner four months after being hit by the winter floods.

Generation Cars has taken over the Baildon Bridge dealership in Otley Road, Shipley, whose site, used by car salesmen since the 1930s, was submerged under four feet of river water during the floods last November.

The water damaged the walls, ceiling and forecourt, ruining electrical and heating systems. Now, after a £40,000 refurbishment, Generation Cars aims to open for business on Saturday.

Director Ian Daker said: "Baildon Bridge is one of the best known car sites in Bradford. It was only when we started work in February that we realised the true extent of the damage that had been caused.

"But we feel the refurbishment work is a good investment for the Shipley area. Things are now taking shape and we are looking forward to opening the doors with 50 cars this weekend."

Mr Daker, whose previous work as a salesman gave him the idea to form his own company, has already taken on five people, and says there is scope for more. He said: "We are hoping to turn this into one of the most prestigious used car sites in Bradford."

The firm is laying on entertainment, including a bouncy castle and a holiday competition, along with food and drink.
