The director of a Bingley company has been disqualified for unfit conduct, including a breach of health and safety laws which led to the death of a worker.

Susan Kathleen Wright, of Bradford Road, Riddlesden, was disqualified for eight years as a result of unfit conduct while director of West Ridings Stationery Ltd.

Leeds County Court heard on March 8 that the envelope-making company, based on the Crossfields Industrial Estate at Bingley, went into liquidation on May 14, 1999.

The court found Wright was in breach of her duty as a director in four ways, including retaining money owed to the Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise as an alternative to bringing in further working capital.

The court also found she had failed to ensure the company complied with tax laws, was in breach of her fiduciary duty by making payments to an employee which were uncommercial and of no benefit to the firm, caused and allowed directors' loans to exceed legal limits and led the business to break health and safety rules leading to the death of an employee.

She also failed to file audited accounts with the Registrar of Companies in time.
