A Bradford musician's song-writing skills have rocketed pop group S Club 7 to the top of the music charts.

The hugely successful teen band were ecstatic on Sunday when Don't Stop Movin' became the group's second single to go straight to number one.

But while S Clubbers Rachel, Hannah, Tina, Jo, Paul, Bradley, and Jon receive the adulation of thousands of fans, the brains behind the hit song belong to former Bradford schoolboy Simon Ellis, pictured.

Simon, 39, who grew up in Swain House, today said he was delighted with the song's success - but admitted that he had penned its catchy chorus while having a bath!

He said: "I'm absolutely delighted it's number one. I still can't believe it.

"There's a rule in our house that we don't listen to the midweek chart positions so when it came to the charts on Sunday we still didn't know what number it was.

"I'm a bit old fashioned so I still like to sit around a crackly old transistor radio to listen to the charts.

"When we heard it was number one all hell let loose - it was just pandemonium and all the champagne corks were popping. I had a shocking hangover on Monday morning."

Don't Stop Movin' is the third hit that the musician has written for S Club 7 and the second which the band has taken to the top of the charts.

Simon, who now lives in Surrey, said: "I've been working with S Club 7 for a while. I wrote Never Had A Dream Come True, which went to number one, and also Two In A Million for them.

"But this is the first song I've produced as well as written so it's extra special.

"The song actually came from an old drum loop I had lying around, we put a bass line on it, and then the chorus came to me while I was in the bath.

"I ran downstairs completely starkers and wrote it down before I forgot it!"

Simon, who first found fame as the keyboard player in 90s dance act D:Ream, is now planning to tour with S Club 7 as their musical director.

He said: "I basically get to decide what the music should sound like live and I'll play the keyboards on stage.

"It's going to be strange listening to 16,000 fans singing my songs back to me every night. But it will definitely be fun."
