Eldwick's Gary Townson - the 18-year-old son of notable local player Keith - is bidding for two titles this weekend as the LTA Summer Series at Heaton reaches its climax.

Tomorrow night he faces his Heaton clubmate Andrew Denny of Bingley in the Men's Division Five final.

And on Saturday Townson, whose mum Lena is a stalwart at Eldwick, faces Matthew Sloan of Huby, near Harrogate, in the Men's Division Six decider (4pm).

Sloan is also shooting for a second title. Earlier on Saturday he faces Mark Harrison - another Eldwick resident - in the Men's Division Seven final (1pm).

Also on at that time is the Women's Division Seven decider - the lower the number the better the standard - between 14-year-old Heaton member Rehana Jomeen and Harrogate's Alexa Sowden.

Alexa's sister Rebecca meets Keighley-based Yorkshire junior Jennifer Nemeth for the Women's Division Three crown (2.30pm), Halifax's Francesca Crawshaw facing Baildon's Kirsty Royston for the Women's Division Six crown at the same time.

lBritain's Tim Henman has been seeded 11th for next week's French Open on his worst surface - clay.

Top seed is defending champion Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil. The champion of Monte Carlo and runner-up in Rome is seeded to meet Marat Safin (Russia) in the final.

Andre Agassi (US) and in-form Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero are the prospective semi-finalists.

However, the world No 4 Spaniard is a doubt with a groin injury, which made it difficult for him to even walk on Monday.

In the women's singles, holder Mary Pierce (France) pulled out yesterday because of a back injury. She won her first round of this week's WTA tournament in Strasbourg, but then withdrew from the event.

World No 8 Anna Kournikova has already withdrawn with a foot injury, and twice quarter-finalist Chanda Rubin is out with a knee injury.
