MORE than ten tonnes of rubbish has been cleared during a month-long series of community clean-ups in Horsforth.

Orchestrated by the town council, the Bin It campaign featured a number of clean-ups at eyesores around the township - and now calls have been made for Horsfordians to keep their town tidy and take a pride in the place.

Nick McCloughlin, a co-opted member of the town council's environment committee, said he was pleased with the clean-ups and thanked everyone who took part.

He said: "We took 20 bin bags of rubbish at the short ginnel off Broadgate Walk alone.

"We had everyone from kids to town councillors and the Cragg Wood Residents' Association on board - and it has helped the kids realise that it is not good to drop litter. One of them told me he would never drop any litter again.

"Now it's up to the town to take a pride and stop dropping litter. The only way these areas will remain clean is if people don't drop or dump litter."

Mr McCloughlin also thanked the cleansing department at Leeds City Council for its co-operation.
