The outside of buses run by the West Yorkshire Road Car Co, based in Harrogate, may not look as clean as usual if the water shortage continues. Mr Ralph Roberts, the company's general manager, said: "To wash one bus takes about 50 gallons. With a fleet of about 500 vehicles, it amounts to 25,000 gallons to keep them all clean."

Twenty local traders were each fined 5s. with 5s. costs in each of 22 summonses at Keighley today. They all pleaded "guilty" to supplying rationed goods without cancelling coupons. Four customers were find a total of £2 15s. including costs, on seven summonses of obtaining rations without producing coupons.
