A 43-year-old man has been jailed for four years after a Court heard how he filmed himself raping a woman who was almost unconscious.

George Knopwood used a camcorder to record 'horrific' footage while the woman was in a state of very deep sleep, Bradford Crown Court was told.

He took advantage of the woman on six occasions, by either raping or assaulting her indecently.

Prosecutor Christopher Batty said when the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, found the tape she felt 'completely shocked and utterly devastated' and handed it to the police.

When Knopwood was arrested last September he told police in an interview that the woman had been semi-conscious, but not unconscious during the incidents.

He claimed that it had been a bit of fun and had the tape only for his use.

Knopwood, of Somer-field Avenue, Bailiff Bridge, Brighouse, pleaded guilty to three charges of rape and six of indecent assault.

Mitigating, John Elvidge told the court Knopwood was 'someone who bitterly regrets what he did', adding: "It has been a difficult matter for him to face."

He said it appeared Knopwood had been in a vulnerable state around the time the activities took place, as he was coming to terms with the death of his father.

Sentencing him, Judge Norman Jones QC said: "Behaviour of this nature is utterly intolerable in a civilised society."

Knopwood has been put on a sex offenders' register indefinitely.
