When Ellis Copley celebrated her first birthday there was only one present mum Tracey Gill had in mind - cash for charity.

Tracey, of Low Moor, wanted the day of celebration to raise cash for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust.

And so Harry Potter met Captain Hook at the fancy dress birthday party which raised almost £750 for the charity which cares for leukaemia sufferers.

"I am on the bone marrow register as my cousin Paul Fillingham has leukaemia," said Tracey, of Third Street. "It made me aware of the disease and I know they need people to join the register."

The party was held at Low Moor and Oakenshaw Com-munity Centre and Tracey asked guests to donate £1 to sign a card for her daughter instead of bringing individual cards.

"Although she is only one, Ellis loves the company of young people," said Tracey, 31, a registered childminder and student at Bradford College.

"I knew she would be too young to remember the event, but thought it would be a nice way to celebrate her birthday and raise some money."

The card alone raised £24 and the rest of the money came from sponsorship. "People took the forms to work to collect sponsorship and the kids took them to school," said Tracey.

"We did really well. The £744.30 raised will go to help people who suffer from this awful disease."

"This is the first time I have ever done any fundraising, but I will do it again," said Tracey. "I am really pleased at the total and so thankful to everybody who helped, particularly the children who came up with ideas for their own costumes.
