Huddersfield Town 2, Colchester United 1- It was billed as 'A New Start' but it had the same old finish.

Just hours after the Terriers were taken over from Bradford businessman Barry Rubery, they recorded another commendable win.

But despite running the show, they almost threw it away in the last closing minutes.

Town took the lead through two early Danny Schofield goals but any thoughts of a comfortable win were washed away in a dramatic last ten minutes in which Colchester threatened to equalise.

Manager Lou Macari, however, was delighted with the result, considering the inexperience in his side.

He pointed to Nathan Clarke, Schofield, Gareth Evans and Leon Knight - all aged 20 or under - and said: "We lack a bit of craft and experience so this is a good result for us.

"Colchester were 2-0 down so they were obviously going to throw men forward, which they did. So it was a good, hard-earned victory for us."

Town took the lead in the fourth minute when Schofield played a neat one-two with King and finished superbly.

In the 25th minute he made it 2-0 at the second attempt when a corner was knocked back in by Knight.

Town dominated all except the last ten minutes but Colchester pulled one back in the 83rd minute when Alan White converted a corner with a smart header.

The result was a perfect start for new chairman David Taylor, an accountant by profession, though he must have been disappointed by the gate - just 7,179, the lowest league attendance this season.

He apologised to the supporters for the protracted nature of the takeover and called for them to back the club.

He said: "We, the new board, will endeavour to resolve the current situation but it will not be easy.

"Our ultimate goal for this season is to gain promotion to the First Division.

"In order to do that we may have to sell one or two players in order to bring in players to strengthen certain positions."

Macari admitted there was unlikely to be any money to invest in the side, such is Town's precarious financial situation, but he said he was happy the takeover was now complete.

And he hoped success in the LDV Vans Trophy - in which Town play Blackpool in a two-legged northern final - might go some way to easing the financial burden on the club.
