This is the CCTV image which led to the capture of a brutal armed robber.

Drug addict Thomas Simpson is clearly seen attacking bus driver Alan Daniel in this on-board camera shot.

He stabbed Mr Daniel twice in the face as the brave driver - whose hand can be seen in the foreground - foiled his attempt to steal a cash bag.

Police recognised the attacker and he was arrested the following day.

On Wednesday, Simpson was jailed for six years after admitting at an earlier hearing to the stabbing of Mr Daniel, a driver with Keighley and District Travel.

Mr Daniel has been on extended sick leave since the incident last September.

This week company bosses said they were "grimly satisfied" at the prison sentence imposed at Bradford Crown Court.

And they added that the case had proved the value of the CCTV cameras, which are now fitted to more than one third of K&DT's 105-vehicle fleet.

Every new bus entering service has the equipment installed as standard.

It was revealed yesterday that the company, which was the first bus operator in the north of England to equip its vehicles with a four-camera digital CCTV system, is to take part in a BBC-commissioned documentary on the crime-busting methods.

K&DT operations manager Jeff Smith said the attack on the driver had shocked everyone at the company.

He added: "We are determined to fight crime on the buses and we have made a very big investment in the highest quality CCTV cameras, which are now producing top quality evidence for the courts.

"This is to protect both our driving staff and for our customers.

"We are currently expanding the CCTV system, and the public can be reassured that K&DT will always press for the strongest penalties for any incidents which take place on our buses."
