Otley Town 3

Boroughbridge 1

Boroughbridge from the York Premier Division fell victim to Otley Town as they battled for the right to go through to the last eight of the West Riding County Cup.

The Otley boys gained the initiative early in the game when Graham Hutchinson's well struck shot from outside the box left Alistair Hogg, the visitors' 'keeper, standing, unable to judge its speed.

It was Hutchinson who also got the second, when he sneaked in unnoticed through a crowded goal area, to score from close range.

Through hard work at this time Otley were well on top.

Boroughbridge's striker was labouring with asthma and an Otley official produced an inhaler only to think about regretting his good deed when the revived Uffindall struck.

With the half time score of 2-1 Boroughbridge put Otley on the back foot.

They were close to an equaliser on a couple of occasions. After this, Otley changed up a gear and their passing, hassling and holding game returned, with the midfield taking control.

Just rewards came ten minutes from the end, when under pressure from Richard Langhorn Hogg turned the ball into his own net.

Otley Town are now through to the last eight of the West Riding County Cup and visit Shelf United on February 2 (1.30 pm kick-off).

Stanley 4

Otley Town Res 5

Otley Town Reserves' visit to Wakefield side Stanley saw the team come away with a win, despite playing badly.

Town took a 3-0 lead only to see Stanley pull back two goals before the half-time break.

At one stage in the second-half Town were in the lead 5-2 and for a second time in the game let a good lead slip.

Town now go through to the quarter-finals of the West Riding Challenge Trophy on February 2.

They have been drawn away to Steeton who are in second place in Division One of the County Amateur League.

l Training is on Tuesdays at Nunroyd Park, Yeadon, under floodlights and is well attended by first team players. It would be good to see more players from the second and third team attending.

Bramhope 5

Otley Town A 1

Town A crashed out of the League Medal competition with an inept display against a team who used home advantage and the conditions to their benefit.

Town took the unusual step of playing with the wind and the slope in the first-half but the gamble did not pay off and they conceded an early goal after some sloppy defending.

Town were unlucky not to level after skillful juggling by Alderson when his overhead kick hit the bar.

Town failed to capitalise on their first-half possession but although 1-0 down at half-time were confident that they could still win the game.

They were dealt a massive blow when another defensive error allowed Bramhope to go 2-0 up.

Town got back into the game with a penalty by Morgan but Town's renewed optimism was cut short when Bramhope netted three more times.

l The A Team visit Bedale on Saturday.
