A Bradford couple who drive each over round the bend are to become the bickering stars of a new TV series.

Bob and Teresa Fowler, pictured, of Fagley, have been picked to feature in the first episode of a new show about the problems facing families in Britain today.

The couple were chosen after they revealed to producers how they can't stand each other's driving - and how nearly every car trip together ends in a blazing row.

Mum of two Teresa, 42, said she volunteered to go on the show to teach her husband a driving lesson.

She said: "He's an absolute nutter. He's the sort of driver who when he comes to a queue will drive up on the inside indicating to get in at the front.

"He doesn't brake until he's right on top of someone and he drives too close to other cars. My heart jumps a beat when I'm in a car with him, I have constant palpitations!"

But Professional HGV driver Bob, 41, said it was his wife who is a nightmare on the roads.

He said: "This show is a light hearted look at driving but we really do have massive arguments about it behind closed doors. She's an awful driver - it's her who ends up driving on the wrong side of the road half the time! She can't drive, that's the bottom line."

As proof that his wife is a bad driver Bob gleefully tells a story about when his wife took six hours to drive to Nottingham one day, mistakenly going via Manchester.

The show, called Family Values, will be presented by renowned writer Kay Mellor and aims to highlight the family dilemmas that people face every day.

As part of the programme, the Fowlers had to retake their driving tests - which left one examiner feeling a little shaken when Bob decided to nip through a gap between a parked bus and two on-coming trucks.

He said: "He was absolutely petrified! He said in all his years he had never seen anything like it!"

As well as the Fowlers the series will feature a wife who is fed up of her football-obsessed husband, a man who believes that housework is women's work and a father who doesn't want to let his 14-year-old daughter go out at night.

Award-winning writer Mellor, the brain behind hit TV shows such as Band of Gold, Fat Friends and Playing The Field, said Robert and Theresa's constant bickering made for excellent television.

She said: "They are definitely characters! They never stop talking or arguing with each other.

"He thinks she's an appalling driver and she can't stand his driving - which is a bit scary because he's a professional driver! It's fireworks every time they get in a car together.

"I'm really glad that Robert and Theresa will be the first show to go out because it makes a great, entertaining, start to the series!"

l You can catch the couple's antics in Family Values on YTV at 10.50pm, on Monday.
