One of the most famous scenes int he Railway Children film came to life when a landslip hit the Keighley and Worth Valley line.

In the film children save the train by flagging down the engine driver using their red peticoats, after a landslip blocked the track. This week a real life landslide blocked the rail only yards from where the film version was staged.

The landslide occurred between Oakworth and Damems and was discovered shortly after 10am on Monday by the day's first train as it made its way along the five-mile line. Railway bosses immediately instigated a replacement bus service, with steam trains continuing to operate between Oxenhope and Oakworth.

Civil maintenance teams from the K&WVR were called in to investigate the landslide. Steam services have been operating daily this week to coincide with the school half-term holidays.

A K&WVR spokesman said the advertised timetable was being maintained, and it was hoped the blocked section of line would be reopened in time for the weekend.
