The top-of-the-table Division 2A clash between Idle Tigers and Heaton United, played in front of a good crowd, turned out to be the expected thriller.

Idle raced into a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes, veteran skipper Tony Elliott rolling back the years to score twice and Mick Marriott adding a third.

Heaton refused to be rattled, however, and Asif Hussain reduced the arrears from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.

Asif added his second minutes into the second half and Manzood Hussain's strike had United level.

In a see-saw encounter Atif Hussain then put United in front for the first time, but the Tigers roared back and Steve Brooksbank kept his nerve to slot home a penalty in the dying minutes to earn his side a point in a 4-4 draw.

Struggling Crown Reserves dented Broadford Plant's promotion ambitions with a 5-1 win, Martin Watson netting two.
