Simon Haughton's two-match ban has been branded "outrageous" by Bulls management.

The Wigan forward was handed the suspension and a £500 fine after being found guilty of reckless use of the forearm.

Haughton was placed on report after raising his elbow as he went into a tackle with Bradford centre Brandon Costin during his side's opening Tetley's Super League defeat by the Bulls last Friday.

"This decision is absolutely outrageous," said Bull's chairman Chris Caisley.

"It is not the consistency we are looking for. This club and Leon Pryce took his four-game ban on the chin, and you would have expected the same punishment for this incident.

"This is sending out the wrong message."

Great Britain winger Pryce was banned for four games after punching forward Kevin Sinfield in the Bull's Challenge Cup defeat to the Leeds Rhinos.

Haughton will now miss Wigan's Super League match at London Broncos on Saturday and the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Challenge Cup quarter-final against Leigh the following weekend, but the punishment could have been worse.

Rugby Football League spokesman John Huxley explained the light punishment: "The disciplinary committee gave the player great credit for his impeccable disciplinary record over 10 years at the highest level."
